My Contributions to Turner City 2021

Turner City is an annual tradition since 1910 that highlights projects Turner Construction Co. successfully completes each year

I worked for the Virtual Design and Construction department at Turner Construction Company from September 2021 to March 2022. I was tasked with modeling many of the buildings, creating façades at the appropriate level of detail for this render. I also helped in the layout and design of the city, 3d printing to-scale models of ALL the buildings to create our own mini city.

Me adjusting the layout of our mock city

We printed the whole city (twice) to better visualize the city streets as well as our camera angle. I Then helped create a digital version of this layout and dealt with all of the challenges associated with importing around 100 detailed SketchUp files into one giant Franken-File.

One of the many challenges I helped overcome was that of space. We had to strike a difficult balance, we wanted all the buildings to be seen. So our natural instinct is to zoom out and to see more, but if we get too far away that is counterproductive. And how the hell are we supposed to fit this GIANT skyscraper without having to zoom out past the horizon?!

We went with a portrait aspect ratio to better suit Merdeka 118, and moved it further back in the scene in order to fit all of the smaller buildings in front. I think we struck the balance we were searching for very well. I cannot describe the pride I feel in having Turner City 2021 on my portfolio. I learned so much about design and architectural rendering from this experience.
